The 4-H program teaches leadership, citizenship, and life skills in an informal, volunteer-led, hands-on, fun learning environment. 4-H projects are research-based and reviewed by specialists at Penn State University. The goal of 4-H is to help young people become self-directed, productive, and contributing members of a diverse society. Service Area

While youth members and adult volunteer leaders typically participate in the 4-H program in their home county, they may participate in any county's 4-H program. In addition, there are programs and educational opportunities offered for 4-H youth and adult

Services Provided

Service Description

  • Beaver County 4-H and Youth Program offers life skills development, hands-on 4-H projects, community service, camping, citizenship, communication programs, Cloverbuds, and travel. 4-H newsletter is sent to 4-H members and adult volunteers.

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Fees/Cost for Services

There is a $30 educational materials fee for traditional members (ages 8 to 18) ($20 for Cloverbud members ages 5-7) to cover the cost of project books. There is an additional $25 horse program fee for members who choose to carry a horse project. Some 4-H clubs may offer optional state-approved fundraising activities for their club members to help offset these costs.

Eligibility Requirements

Youth aged 8 to 18 by January 1 of the current year, living anywhere in Pennsylvania, can join the program. In addition, youth aged 5-7 may enroll in the introductory Cloverbud program, which uses age-appropriate learning activities. 4-H Club Leaders are adult volunteers (age 20 or old) who have been carefully screened and interviewed by the local 4-H & Youth Educator.

Volunteer Description

The 4-H program relies on adult volunteer to organize and lead local clubs in directing projects and activities for 4-H members and families. We are always looking for engaged, enthusiastic adults (20 and older) to start new clubs or help with existing clubs. Adults interested in becoming a 4-H Volunteer leader should contact 4-H & Youth Educator Jen McKinley at 724-774-3003 x 5 or jem67@psu.edu.
