Training: Cultural and Linguistics Competency & Training Series – Part 2 Poverty – It’s More Than Money

This session will explore the complex issues surrounding people living in poverty.   We will discuss the knowledge and skills necessary for social service workers to under-stand how to facilitate positive communication and interactions.  Special attention will be given to the hidden rules and behaviors emanating from the culture of being “poor and more”!
Presenter: Donald E. Sheffield, Ed.D. Donald E. Sheffield has a BA from Geneva College, a master’s from Slippery Rock University, and a doctorate in higher education from Penn State University.  He spent most of his career in higher education with the last twenty-six years at Penn State University until his retirement in 2002.  Prior to retirement, he served as Director of Diversity Outreach for the Office of the Outreach and Cooperative Extension.  Dr. Sheffield developed field programs to improve the multicultural education of undergraduate students for Penn State.  He is the founder and president of TAME, Inc., a consulting firm dedicated to cultural excellence.
