NAMI Basics

NAMI Basics is a six-week course for the parents/primary caregivers of children and adolescents who have been diagnosed or are experiencing symptoms of mental illness.
NAMI Basics is taught by trained teachers who are the parents or other caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of thirteen. The class is 6-weeks and meets once a week for 2 ½ hours. The course and materials are provided at no cost to participants.

Classes begin Monday, September 15, 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the Children’s Institute, 1405 Shady Avenue, Pittsburgh. Registration is required. Contact NAMI Southwestern PA at 412-366-3788 or email info@namiswpa.org.
Goals of NAMI Basics:
- To give the parent/caregiver the basic information necessary to take the best care possible of their child, their family, and themself.
- To help the parent/caregiver cope with the impact that mental illness has on the child living with the illness and the entire family.
- To provide tools for the parent/caregiver to use even after completing the program that will assist in making the best decisions possible for the care of the child.
