Ethics inthe Helping Profession

This course will address the ethical principles on which mental health and substance abuse services are based. Specific areas of practice where boundary violations tend to occur will be discussed. Practice concerns that arise in different roles and settings will be examined.

Objectives:

• list the common principles that support most ethical codes
• explain why dual relationships are such a bad idea
• recognize the role of rationalization and drift in unethical behavior
• guard against pressure to violate ethical codes
