TRAINING: 5th Annual Conference on ADHD and Executive Function

September 23, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$30 – $225

Introduction

The ADHD Across the Lifespan Clinic of WPIC is proud to present the fifth annual ADHD and Executive Function conference. The keynote presentation this year will be given by Dr. Russell Barkley, an internationally known lecturer and author of numerous books including the widely acclaimed Taking Charge of ADHD: The Complete Guide for Parents and Taking Charge of Adults with ADHD.  In addition, he is the founder and executive editor of The ADHD Report. Dr. Barkley will be presenting on two topics.

Adolescent and Adult Outcomes of Childhood ADHD and Treatment Implications

This presentation is drawn from both Dr. Barkley’s book on ADHD in Adults: What the Science Tells Us (October, 2007) as well as more recent longitudinal studies, in which he describes the results of large follow-up studies of children with ADHD in adults.    New findings from this substantial body of research will be presented concerning the impact of ADHD on various major life activities.  These include risk for psychiatric disorders, educational functioning, occupational functioning, financial management, driving, social relationships, risky sexual activities, and health behavior.  He will also discuss the treatment implications that arise from these findings.

Diagnosis and Management of ADHD in Adults. Dr. Barkley reviews the major issues involved in the diagnosis of ADHD in adults including special adjustments to be made to DSM-V to apply it more appropriately to adult diagnosis.  He will then discuss the major evidence-based treatments for use with adults with ADHD.

The afternoon will consist of presentations on topics for professionals who work with individuals with ADHD, adults living with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD. Each session will be available for anyone to attend but will concentrate on issues related to one or more of these groups. Participants should leave the conference with a greater understanding of the multitude of issues surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD across the lifespan.

Who Should Attend

The conference is designed to present the latest research and clinical knowledge regarding ADHD to a wide audience:  psychiatrists and other mental health clinicians, including nurses, social workers, educators/teachers, and psychologists; service coordinators, researchers, patients and their relatives, mental health policy administrators and others who intend to keep current regarding etiology, treatment, and research related to ADHD across the lifespan.

 Objectives

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the complexities associated with ADHD in Adolescents and Adults and the life course of ADHD.
  • Discuss various differential diagnoses/conditions that can have an impact on the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and how to identify these differentials.
  • Identify several strategies for intervention with multiple populations of individuals with ADHD using traditional and non-traditional therapies.
