HISTORY OF CCBC
The Community College of Beaver County began with the actions of civic and educational groups responding to the Community College Act of 1963. After two years of study, the Beaver County School Directors Association, in March of 1965, approved the founding of a Community College and directed the filing of the necessary applications with the State Council of Higher Education and the Pennsylvania Board of Education.

The College was officially established on August 1, 1966. Dr. Horace B. Monroe was the first President and under his direction a faculty was recruited, and arrangements were made for temporary headquarters on the second, third, and fourth floors of the then Freedom National Bank. The College also leased 17 vacant storefronts for classrooms and offices.

On February 6, 1967, Mr. J. Harvey Moore informed the Board of Trustees that a site in Center Township, the Mancini property, was �ideally located� for the location of the Community College of Beaver County. In 1971, the college moved from its temporary classrooms in Freedom to its permanent 100-acre site in Center Township. Ground breaking for the new campus was at 2 p.m. on Sat., April 16, 1969.

When the College opened its doors to students in September 1967, it had approximately 700 students enrolled full-time and an additional 1,000 residents had the benefit of continuing education courses.

The Allied Health Building was added in 1973, and the Dome, a geodesic design by R. Buckminster Fuller, was completed in 1976 as a physical/recreation complex.

The Aviation Sciences Center was completed in 1990 on Beaver County Airport property. In January 1997, construction on the Library Resource Center was completed and now serves as a partnership with the Beaver County Library System to provide community access to the College Library.

In the summer of 2001, the College opened the Beaver Technology Education Center in Chippewa Township at the Aviation Sciences Center.

In recent years, the College secured county sponsorship and a new nine-member Board of Trustees was appointed, which has resulted in several significant changes to the institution.

During the fall of 2007, CCBC embarked on an exciting time in its history as a major campus renovation project got underway. A Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on October 18 in the Courtyard to commemorate the start of construction. Every building on campus will be renovated and updated to include state-of-the-art classrooms, meeting rooms and offices as a result of a $26 million renovation project.

After partnering with the Meadows Racetrack & Casino, CCBC opens its Washington County Center, located at Southpointe on September 17, 2010. The site offers casino dealer training as well as workforce development courses for business and industry.

In 2013, Franklin University and Community College of Beaver County entered into a leasing agreement that located a branch campus of Franklin within CCBC�s main campus in Center Township in order to offer bachelor's degrees to students and residents.

The Middle States Accreditation attests that the Commission on Higher Education considers the institution to be offering its students the educational opportunities implied by its objectives.

CCBC is also approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for education and training of veterans. This certification enables veterans to receive VA benefits while attending classes.

Community College of Beaver County is an Achieving the Dream Leader College.

There is a flat rate tuition amount of $1,725 for in-county students and $5,175 for out-of-county students taking 12-18 credits. Additional fees apply.
