Options: Vision, Mission and/or Purpose of OrganizationCIL’s believe that each person with a disability should be empowered to function at their highest achievable level of independence. This is accomplished through a combination of systems change, individual advocacy and the provision of direct services. CIL’s believe in the principles of consumer control, consumer choice, equal access and equal opportunity for all people with disabilities, regardless of diagnosis or age.
History of Organization:TRCIL was established in 1983 after a successful 3-year demonstration project that began in 1980 at the former Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, now a part of the HealthSouth Network. TRCIL’s founding father was Harmarville’s President & CEO at the time, Lee H. Lacey, a pioneer in rehabilitative services.
TRCIL serves thousands of people throughout Western Pennsylvania. As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), the CIL service area is Allegheny, Armstrong, and Westmoreland counties. Additional services include Home and Community Based Services, Assistive Technology (AT),an Accessible Gym, and Advocacy.
