The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, young people and their families by providing a specialized continuum of services that enables them to reach their potential.

History of Organization:

Since 1985, Project STAR has been one of the three components of The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh. We offer a range of permanency planning services for children with special needs and their families.

Project STAR at The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh is licensed by
the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare as an
adoption, foster care and private children and youth
social service agency.

Affiliations

Project STAR is an affiliate member of the
Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN).
Project STAR maintains contracts with local, statewide
and out-of-state counties in the areas of placement
services and family preservation/reunification services.

Services Provided

Service Description

  • Adult Literacy Action offers classes and individual tutoring for: basic skills in reading, writing, and math, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), U.S. citizenship/naturalization preparation, workforce education, GED, family literacy, tutor training certification program, institutional adult basic education and GED, and assessment of basic skills.

8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
